Remiseparken: An urban park renewed for nature and connection

September 10, 2025

Remiseparken is a green gem hidden in the centre of the housing development Urbanplanen in Copenhagen, Denmark. The renewal of the park features cherry plums, birches, and thriving goats between the housing blocks, turning the area into a safer, more inviting space. A new activity path now links diverse landscapes and features, supporting play, biodiversity, and community. The result is a resilient urban oasis for both locals and visitors to enjoy.

Social sustainability

The renewal of Remiseparken is part of a larger effort to make Urbanplanen safer and more connected. The project preserves key park features; small allotment gardens, DIY structures, and lush growth, while replacing the wide, straight path with a dynamic activity path that ties the park together. The main design enhances existing qualities while connecting different zones and activities. The new path increases coherence and gives Remiseparken a distinct identity as a place for community, physical activity, and nature in a dense urban area.

Activity path

The activity path is the park’s main artery. Zigzagging and shifting in width, it links various activities, areas, and nature types. At times, it invites movement, and at others, it offers quiet spots that narrow to protect trees and enable new connections. Made of dyed, cast-in-place concrete, the path features three types of tactile surfaces. Its edges feature exposed aggregate for grip and visual contrast, also aiding the visually impaired; its border parts invite sitting, and the concrete is terrazzo-polished for comfort. The path strengthens connections between north and south and across three landscape types: cultural, active, and natural. Its form and materiality support a coherent architectural expression.

The natural landscape

In the southwest corner, woodland and hilly terrain are preserved. A new Alder Grove with 20+ species creates an intimate, biodiverse rainwater zone. Footbridges make it accessible even when flooded. A wadi along the park’s west edge collects rainwater and features plants that handle both drought and flood, supporting biodiversity and climate resilience.

"In many ways, Remiseparken has been a milestone and a turning point for BOGL. It has been incredible to see the project take shape before our eyes, —but perhaps even more amazing to witness how locals and other Copenhageners have embraced the park and brought it to life."
